THE PERIODIC ANAEROBIC BAFFLED REACTOR

 

Objective:

The Laboratory for Biochemical Engineering and Environmental Technology (LBEET) is carrying out research on modeling, design, optimisation and control of bioprocesses with special emphasis on the processes used for Environmental Protection.

  • one anaerobic unit, that has been used for codigestion of agroindustrial wastewaters,
  • one tertiary wastewater treatment plant (A2/O), used for the simultaneous removal of organics, nitrogen and phosphorus from municipal wastewaters
  • one trickling filter that has been use for (a) removal of ammonia, Mn and Fe from potable water, and (b) treatment of textile industry wastewater

b. lab-scale processes:

  • two bioreactors
  • two sequencing batch reactors
  • one Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Reactor
  • one Periodic Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (our patent)
  • one anaerobic CSTR
  • one sedimentation column
