RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
  • Valorisation of industrial (metallurgical, mining etc) residues.
  • Processes: Structural ceramics. Cements. Geopolymers. Sintering processes.
  • Pyrometallurgical processes: Slag-metal reactions. Thermodynamics and Kinetics.
  • Surface modification processes (Thermo-, chemical treatment of metals CVD).
  • Process modelling. Thermochemical simulation of multi-element, multiphase systems.
EQUIPMENT
  • High temperature sector: vacuum/inert gas melting induction furnaces, Tammann furnaces, rotary furnaces, resistance and superkanthal furnaces up to 1750°C.
  • Materials preparation sector: mixing, crushing and milling equipment, pug mill and clay extruders.
  • Optical microscopy sector: optical microscopes, interference microscope, hot stage optical microscope.
  • Material testing sector: dilatometer, DTA, DSC, up to 1600°C, high temperature electrical conductivity, tensile and flexural strength testing machine, micro-hardness and hardness testers, microtomes, pressing equipment, galvanostatic/potentiostatic apparatus, Blaine apparatus etc.
  • Chemical analysis sector: Atomic Absorption, element analysers (CHSN/O) and O/N, spectrophotometers, IR gas analysers, titration apparatus.
  • Mechanical properties sector: 45KN Dillon tensile testing machine.
